Town of New Haven Selectmens Meeting
7:00 pm Town Clerks Office
Tuesday April 3, 2007
Present: Keith Hall, Burt
Allen, Paul Audy, Pam Kingman
Others: Barb Torian, Phil
Busier, Betty Bell, Wayne Marcelle, Harold Tricou, Jerry Smiley
Roads:
Update
- 99 International Truck
pulled transmission to fix forks. Also worked on the brake cam, changed
hydraulic lines and cross members.
- Trailer Burt Allen
will call Perfection Motor Sports and set everything up for Road Crew to pick
up.
- 550 Truck Changed oil
pan and fixed clutch.
- Chloride Tank Tank is
free from Gorman Bros. provided we purchase liquid chloride from them @ $.82 -
$85 per gallon. The tank holds up to 4500 gallons and is made of plastic. It
would then be loaded onto the trailer and towed behind a truck using a spray
application that fans out across the road. Generally this is done after the
road has been graded. Discussion about the cost of liquid compared to using
bags of dry chloride and the effectiveness of each, the dry tends to blow away
before it can become effective. There are also health concerns with handling
and breathing in the dry chloride. Paul Audy suggested ordering 2500 gallons
of liquid chloride for a trial, Burt Allen second, all agree.
- Conveyor Price Quote
for a 70ft. conveyor is $26,000. Discussion about the cost of the conveyor vs.
buying a push blade. A push blade would attach to the front end of the loader
and cost around $4,000; Paul Audy will call Craig Brown to get an estimate.
Selectboard all agree that the conveyor is costly, and may not be the right
answer for our town.
- Interchangeable boxes
for trucks one for hauling gravel and the other to be used for sanding,
price quote not here yet should be around the $26,000 that was budgeted. No
action taken.
- Grader has been
repaired, cost $6,628.03. Wing attachment for grader will be picked up, then
just needs to be bolted on and its ready to use.
- Plank
Rd.
Bridge needs new deck
- Roadside mowing bid
from David Minor total cost for summer and fall is $8,640. Paul Audy made a
motion to accept bid, second by Keith Hall. All agree.
NEW BUSINESS
Visitors Business:
- Betty Bell would like
to continue mowing the King House lawn @ $27.50 per mowing. Paul Audy made a
motion to accept the proposal, second by Keith Hall. All agree. She is the
Sexton of the Riverside Cemetery,
and would like permission to hire someone to fix the gate and the post that
holds it up. Selectboard all agree it is okay to hire someone to fix it.
- Wayne Marcelle Has
received several complaints about a new dog in town. Neighbors are nervous
about letting children play outside in their own yards, as well as letting
their cats out. The dog has not been licensed yet, so it is unclear if it has
had its rabies vaccine. Wayne Marcelle said he will follow up with a letter to
Nick Liberio concerning the dog and he is asking for full support from the
selectboard. Each member reassured
Wayne that they all support him.
- Jerry Smiley Updated
larger office plans: new draft plan offers 4ft. of additional space to the
south end of the building, opening up the offices to 120 sq. ft. each; making
the total square footage of the building 3,250. The new plan has been shown to
the office staff for their approval he is now asking the selectboard for
theirs. Burt Allen made a motion to accept Jerry Smileys plan, second by
Keith Hall all agree. Selectboard told Mr. Smiley that they appreciate all his
hard work, but the plan is dependent upon what happens with the King House.
Discussion about the architects that Jerry Smiley has been in contact with,
they are willing to submit their resumes for the selectboard to look over.
Then around the end of May the selectboard can interview them.
- Barb Torian Network
Server for Office Computers: met with John Peters from the technology
committee and Michael Forte from Forte Computer Service. Total estimate for
networking computers is $6003.97. Michael Forte would like a deposit of
$3,500. Barb Torian explained that there would be a six day disc saver. Each
day the computers would be backed up to save all the information for that day,
at the end of the week all the computers would be backed up and put on a final
disc and taken off premises by a designated employee. Burt Allen pleased
Michael Forte is familiar with the town computers, it makes sense to go with
him. Paul Audy made a motion proceed, second by Keith Hall. All agree.
