 Visitors Business

Discussion about JR’s Rubbish & Recycling is leaving the site at the junction.  He has built a new facility and does not want to pay rent on the current site.  He would like another drop off location in town.   Discussion of what other towns do and potential options.  New Haven is currently spending $850.00 per month.  Volume has increased by 30%.  Discussion of people possibly going to Vergennes.  Discussion – no district policy to cover towns.  Discussion of putting it out to bid to all the haulers in the area.

There is no place to put a recycle “center” in town.

Discussion - about the use of containers to house the recycling, where could they be located?  JR unwilling to remove containers immediately after use. More discussion of curb side pick up JR would do it for $5.50 per month per household.  Betty Bell asked to not have the boxes located at the Town Hall again, all agreed it was too messy, and there just isn’t enough space for parking and the recycle boxes. Larry Buck does not want to control who the townspeople choose for rubbish as well as recycling. Selectboard was only given 2 weeks notice.  It is not enough time to find an alternative.  People will need to fend for themselves until the Selectboard can look into all the options.

More discussion on costs and options. Paul Audy made a motion to have individual residents find their own curbside recycling. Second by Larry Buck. All agree.

Bill Barnard – Complemented the road crew.  Had spoken with Phil Busier about getting the lines painted on the roads, He had said there wasn’t enough money in the budget. Spoke of the importance of the lines on the road and the ability for people to be able to drive at night.  Please have the lines painted on the roads.  Amos Roleau- the state used to sub-contract, but they no longer provide that service.

Betty Bell- Riverside Cemetery- the gate needs to be fixed. Would like to see              outside of fence brush hogged, horse fence on east side. Would like to ask George Crane and Jerry Smiley if they would allow someone on their property to brush hog.  George Bell could do the work. Selectmen- ok to do it.

Jim Walsh – RE: VELCO - The PSB will be doing a site visit to Forrest Drive and the Sub-Station on August 25, 2005 at 2:00. Meet at the Sub-station. Jim handed the Selectmen paperwork regarding Forrest Drive residents now having party status.

Amos Roleau- Spoke with Harvey Smith who talked to the Governor, who said he didn’t want to get involved.

Jim Walsh - Would like the Selectmen to attend the meeting on August 25. Would like to keep meeting low key.

Larry Buck- Jim is an intervener and will be allowed to speak. Selectmen may not be allowed to or anyone else.

 NEW BUSINESS:

Water cooler on the drinking fountain in cafeteria is broken. Selectmen all agree it is owned by the town and the town will be responsible for the repair.  Wayne Marcelle will order a new one and have it installed.

Jim Dumont – Letter to Army Corps of Engineers. Jim Dumont would like approval from Selectmen, he hasn’t filed papers yet. RE: State & PSB. Selectmen approve.

Larry Buck received a fax from Jim Ouimette.  It appears the town has spent over $13,000.00 in legal expenses relating to John Madden.  Ouimette does not recommend the town join Peter Norris in any litigation.
