NEW BUSINESS
- VELCO
– petition – Discussion on the results of the town meeting on Dec.
22.
Burt Allen – Spoke of the hand
vote being non-binding and that the distribution of monies was up to the Select
Board. From a conversation with the
Secretary of States’ Office he believes town should wait 30 days prior to
spending any funds.
Kathleen Ready – Spoke of this
being the third time that the town’s people have directed the Select Board to
work against VELCO.
Discussion of the petition handed
in prior to the town meeting on December 22.
Burt Allen does not consider the petition to be valid. The petitioner would need to get new signatures
and a new petition considering the last vote.
Larry Buck – petition came in
prior to the meeting on the 22nd and no motions were made to change
the article.
Kathleen Ready – Do you respect
the vote which took place on the 22nd? Will you spend the funds after 30 days?
Burt Allen – Concerned about how
the money is being spent and whether it is worth while. Would it be better to spend it somewhere
else?
Kathleen Ready – Report from the
negotiation committee – The committee has sent a letter to the people who live
along the proposed expansion routes, asking them to express their
concerns. Dumont
is setting up a meeting with VELCO. Dumont is also
working on testimony for the opposition of VELCO.
Larry Buck Motion to not honor the
petition submitted prior to the vote on the 22nd, petition would
need to be re-written and new signatures obtained. Second by Burt Allen. All agree.
